Magnesium - Crest Of Red b/w Metal Soldier [Demo] 7" (BLR-014)
Shinji Tachi has long been an essential fixture of the Japanese underground heavy metal scene, playing in bands like Sabbat, Sacrifice, Metalucifer, G.A.T.E.S., and many more. While these bands have mostly received the adulation and respect they deserve, his passion project Magnesium has existed under-the-radar to most outside of his own immediate circle.
However, responsibility too falls on the band itself for its incredibly cult status: Magnesium has existed since 1992, but has only released a demo cassette, two split 7" singles with fellow Japanese heavy metal defenders Gorgon, a 7" single on Iron Pegasus, and a slew of impossibly rare (~100 copies of each exist) live LPs. High time, then, that the band benevolently reaches back into the vaults to allow for a new release for us frothing masses.
This single is comprised of two archival recordings circa 1999/2000. Magnesium has always had a quite personal, reverent approach to classic heavy metal, but these bedroom recordings are perhaps their most intimate affair. Recorded on an 8-track in his humble abode, Shinji performs every role: vocals, guitars, bass, and even the drumpad of an MPC. The A-side "Crest Of Red" is one of the most transcendent moments of the Magnesium songbook, appearing only on the live album Magnesium Lady Bites Mad Metal Men in 2007. The B-side is essentially a demo version of "Metal Soldier," perhaps Magnesium's most Saxonion take that appeared in full band form on their second split with Gorgon in 2004.
Coinciding with Magnesium’s first US appearance in Brooklyn, NY on January 11th, 2020, we here at Bitter Lake Recordings are proud to present the Crest Of Red b/w Metal Soldier [Demo] 7", released in classic Magnesium fashion in a one-time limited run of only 100 copies.

Absolutely in love with the full length album (check it out too!!) "The Conquest..." I decided to get the demo too. A bit unfair that I discovered the newest first, so this is biased in a way, but the demo definitely sets the solid ground for what is to come next. Wish Century a century of success !!! sachavonkarl74
